Learn how to research your family history

If you're in Nottinghamshire, why not join one of my family history courses.

Trace Your Ancestors - Getting Started
Learn in a friendly, helpful atmosphere. No previous experience of family history research required, just lots of enthusiasm!

The course covers all the basics to get you started researching your family history:

  • Where to start
  • Census records
  • Birth, Marriage, Death registration
  • Parish Registers
  • Wills
  • Military records
  • Family Tree software

Click here for the Course Outline - pdf document (42kb) will open in new window.

10 week Next Steps course - following the success of the beginners course, most people want to carry on developing their skills. The Next Steps course explores a wider range of sources - trade directories; records of pauper ancestors; tracing black sheep and elusive ancestors such as 'unknown' fathers of illegitimate children. Next steps also includes a visit to a local archive.

Please note that basic computer skills are an advantage as the courses include use of Internet resources and software to organise and display your findings.
